Yapproval of the grant of free quarters to the First Bailiff
at the Supreme Court.

The salary of the post is £300 to £360, being the same as that of the Chief Preventive Officer and
opproximately the same as that of the Superintendent of Mails, both of whom have free quarters. Mr. A. W. Hill, the present First Bailiff, has service since 1900; he is married, with a
family; and he has no promotion to look forward to.
3.
In anticipation of your approval, I have
granted him a house allowance of 850 a month pending the provision of quarters, with effect from the 1st. January. Until the end of 1917 he draw a rent allowance of $20 a
month under the scheme for rent allowances for subordinate
officers.
